Landscapes II - Big Bend National Park, Texas

Big Bend National Park, located in southwestern Texas, is one of the least visited national parks in the US, in large part due to the difficulty in getting there. It has three separate ecosystems - mountain, desert, and river environments. The Rio Grande River forms the southern boundary of the park (as well as the US border) and has carved out deep canyons with high vertical walls. I took a two-day rafting and camping trip through one of the most picturesque of these gorges, the Santa Elena Canyon, and then spent the rest of my visit hiking in the Chisos Mountains and in the riparian zone near the Rio Grande.
